Amizetta Estate Offers Wines And Views To Swoon Over

We have a lot in common with Spencer Clark, the Founder of Amizetta, mainly -- we both share a deep passion of wine and music. Clark grew up as a rice farmer in Texas, where he pursued his love of playing piano and guitar that eventually led him to study music at University of St. Thomas. Years later he purchased a property in St Helena that became the Amizetta winery, vineyard and family home.

The Clarks enlisted the services of Justin Meyer, the founder and winemaker of Silver Oak Cellars, to help design their dream winery, something they have now dubbed ‘a winemaker’s winery.’ The plot of land is off the beaten path, but well worth the drive as it offers breathtaking views to compliment the extraordinary wines.

Q: Who are the owners of the winery?

A: The Clark Family

Q: Who is the master vintner?

A: Eddie Clark

Q: How did you get started in the wine industry?

A: I [Eddie] grew up in St. Helena where my parents owned and operated our family estate, Amizetta. Following a degree in winemaking and viticulture at Fresno State, I took over winemaking at Amizetta for my family in 2010.

Q: What is one of your favorite varietals to work with and why?

A: Amizetta wines are 100% estate and we grow and make exclusively Bordeaux varieties. Most recently, we produced a 100% Petit Verdot. This was my first time making a single variety Petit Verdot; it is very unique to see this as a stand-alone wine.

Q: Is there a fun fact or interesting bit of information about your winery?

A: Amizetta is my mother's first name. She is the fifth generation Amizetta in the family; my sister and niece are also called Amizetta.

Spencer [the Founder] decided that the best way to compliment his new vineyard site was to name it after the love of his life, his wife Amizetta. It's a name that has been passed down through her family for over 15 generations. We also love that the root of "ami" means “friend.”

Q: Is there anything you want us to know?

A: We do not distribute our wines, and produce only three thousand cases each year.

Q: Which one of your wines is perfectly paired with a particular food and why?

A: Our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon pairs perfectly with a dry-aged Porterhouse steak.

Q: Which celebrity chef would you most like to fix you a meal that would then be paired with your wine?

A: Emeril Lagasse - he looks like a fun guy!

Q: Who is your favorite artist or band that you have discovered through Live In The Vineyard?

A:Lucas Hoge
